Amazon Account Scam

We recently received this email stating that our Amazon account had been suspended and asking that we follow a link to confirm our account. In this case, the link does not take you to Amazon, but a website hosted in Vietnam (which is now offline).

If you receive any emails like this, verify the links are correct by hovering your mouse over the link and wait a few seconds for a pop up to show you link’s address. If it does not match the site mentioned in the email (in this case Amazon), do not click the link.

Sometimes, the return email address will also be invalid, but this is not always the case. It is very easy for spammers to fake the return email address.

Another clue that the email may be fake is in the grammar. If the email is poorly written with grammar or spelling errors, be very suspicious that this email may be fake.

If you are concerned there may be an issue with your account, open a web browser and navigate to the site’s login page as you normally would (www.amazon.com) and bypass any links found in the email. If you do not see any errors when logging in to your account normally, then the email was likely just a phishing email trying to trick you into giving away your username and password.

If you’re still not sure, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you decide if there is an issue with your account, or if it is just a phishing email.
